Sorry, I don't know much yet about the role of Local Area Coordinators, but it is interesting to me that that model has spread to other countries in the world from W.A. but apparently not to South Australia. Information about the earlier incarnation of LAC in W.A. might be in the Ph.D. thesis from 1996 that I am trying to borrow (by inter-library loan). In the chapter on North American approaches in the book "Developments in Direct Payments" is the quote: "The best research on this phenomenon is on the local area coordination and direct funding project in Western Australia (Lewis, 1996). This initiative has had great success in supporting the people who choose this approach while, at the same time, having very little impact on the broader, more traditional system." Perhaps there are places in the world where LAC is still being used in a way closer to its earlier incarnation, does anyone have an idea where this might be the case? Anton
