Hi,
There is a lot of information available about individualised funding, but very little about any possibility of Local Area Coordination (LAC) in South Australia. Since LAC seems to be the whole package, personally I'm interested in concentrating on that, so does anyone have any ideas why there seems little interest so far in LAC in S.A.?

Hi Anton

Can you explain more about what the LAC role is? In WA they don't have anything to do with peoples application or allocation of ongoing funding. I have heard they are good, very supportive and informative but I wouldn't say they do it all here. Although I believe their earlier incarnation might have.

Sorry, I don't know much yet about the role of Local Area Coordinators, but it is interesting to me that that model has spread to other countries in the world from W.A. but apparently not to South Australia. Information about the earlier incarnation of LAC in W.A. might be in the Ph.D. thesis from 1996 that I am trying to borrow (by inter-library loan).

In the chapter on North American approaches in the book "Developments in Direct Payments" is the quote: "The best research on this phenomenon is on the local area coordination and direct funding project in Western Australia (Lewis, 1996). This initiative has had great success in supporting the people who choose this approach while, at the same time, having very little impact on the broader, more traditional system."

Perhaps there are places in the world where LAC is still being used in a way closer to its earlier incarnation, does anyone have an idea where this might be the case?
